Chiropractic Chiropractic is a healthcare discipline which focuses on finding and correcting the underlying causes of healthcare problems. The goal of chiropractic is to promote wellness by optimizing the body’s ability to heal itself naturally without the use of drugs and surgery. Chiropractors focus on the relationship between structure and function with an emphasis on safe, non-invasive management. Diagnosis generally includes a detailed patient history, orthopedic and neurological tests, chiropractic palpation, and x-rays if necessary. Treatment may include chiropractic adjustments, therapeutic exercises, stretches, massage, laser therapy, orthotics, and advice on diet, exercise, and stress management. Chiropractic adjustments can be done in a variety of ways. Some patients prefer super gentle adjustments, in which case an Activator instrument or a "drop" table is used. Manual adjusting by hand is the dominant style for most chiropractors. Chiropractors aren’t limited to treating just the spine, they can also treat problems in the extremities (arms and legs).
